The second match of my trip to Rosario was another big one with Boca Juniors in town. Both Newell’s and Boca still had a chance of winning the opening League but for Newell’s it really was a must-win match. Unfortunately for 'La Lepra’ Boca ended up comfortable 4-1 winners.
Rosario is known as the 'World Football Capital' and it's easy to see why. It's a proper football city and everyone you meet supports either Central or Newell's

Due to the difficulty of acquiring tickets for this match, I chose to go with a tour that included a visit to the former barrio of Lionel Messi who was born and grew up in the city.

Match Facts
How to buy tickets for Newell's Old Boys
To get tickets for Newell's games, you have to be a member/socio or know someone who is. The only option I could find was to go with a tour organised by Juan (‘Juan in the City’) via Homefans. The tour included a visit to the former home of Messi and other football-related sites in Rosario and is highly recommended.

How to get to Estadio Marcela Biesla
The stadium is located in the beautiful Parque Independencia. You can walk from the city centre or go with a tour which will provide transportation
Intensity Level - Medium
There were no away fans at this one but the atmosphere was amazing. It felt safe and relaxed throughout and it was good to enjoy the previa in Parque Independencia - a great setting for a pre-match beer
Rosario - key locations (Centre and Stadiums)

Tips for visiting the Estadio Marcela Biesla
Go with a tour, contact Juan in the city/Homefans
Take time to walk through Parque Independencia
Bring mosquito repellent - lots of it!

Where to buy the club shirt?
The Rosario Sports Outlet store in the centre had a good selection of shirts of Newell's and other clubs. There is a small shop at the stadium which has a goode selection of shirts but I found it quite expensive so I opted for a fake Maradona classic shirt (he made a few appearances for the club at the end of his career) which I bought from a vendor outside the stadium
