Always Ready (1) v Bolivar (1) Bolivian Primera Division, Estadio El Alto 23/11/25
On the Sunday of my weekend visit to La Paz it was off to El Alto to see the top of the table clash between Club Always Ready and Bolivar. I was interested in the Always Ready name and wanted to know if had any connection with another certain club….surely not!
Going into the match, Always Ready were top of the table with Bolivar sitting six points behind in third.

El Alto is a satellite city above La Paz and has an altitude of over 4,100 metres. I’m fairly sure it’s the first time I’ve been to a game by cable car!

Just before kickoff there was a severe storm and the match was delayed for 30 mins to clear the pitch from the rain and snow. The surrounding streets had turned into torrents and it was difficult to actually cross. Some local entrepreneurs set up temporary bridges made of bricks and were charging 1 Boliviano to cross - I gladly paid!

The Estadio Municipal de El Alto is a fairly new stadium with a capacity of 25,000. Bolivia plays some of it’s international matches here to take advantage of the altitude. The stadium was packed for this game with the majority supporting the away side Bolivar. It was a friendly atmosphere with most of the ground mixed with both sets of fans.
I’d recommend a visit to the stadium but only for the big games v Bolivar or The Strongest - Always Ready don’t seem to have a big fan base and normally there’s only a few thousand there.
Match Facts
Estadio de El Alto, Villa Ingenio, El Alto
Capacity: 25.000
Attendance: Approx: 23,0000
Temperature: Not sure but it was snowing before kick off, followed by burning sun
Cost of ticket: 60 BOB (preferencia)

How to buy tickets for Club Always Ready
The tickets were on sale at various sales points around La Paz on the days before the match. I went for the preferencia area but the other areas looked just as good and had more shelter and space. The preferencia was packed with people having to stand due to lack of room. You could also get tickets at the stadium on the day of the match but there were big queues before kick-off.

How to get to Estadio del Alto
It’s a bit of a trek to get to but well worth it. Uber only tends to work for airport trips in La Paz, so in the absence of any taxi apps I took the Mi Telferico cable car from Estacion Central ( red line) up to Estacion 16 de Julio in El Alto - its a bit nerve racking especially if you don’t like heights!
From here I took the blue line to Rio Seco and with the help of some locals jumped in a micro to the stadium.
After the match I walked back to Rio Seco which took around 30 mins. I then took the same lines back to La Paz (although at one point I somehow managed to go back in the same direction).
You’ll see a lot of reviews on El Alto not being safe at night and I’d tend to agree. Going to a game at night could be challenging with limited transportation options to get back to La Paz.

Where to buy the official Always Ready shirt?
There are no official shops in the centre so I went to the Marathon Sports store in the Zona Sur area. It took about 1.5 hours to get there but was we’ll worth the trip! They had prior seasons shirts at huge discounts and I ended up paying around £6 per shirt .
To get to Marathon Sports I used the fantastic Mi Teleferico cable car system. I took the light blue line from Prado to Libertador then the green line to Ipravi. From there it’s a 20 min walk.
