The Strongest (2) v Real Oruro (1) Bolivian Primera Division, Estadio Hernande Silles, 22/11/25
The Herndo Siles stadium is one of the highest professional football stadiums in the world at 3,600 metres high. Many famous players including Messi, Maradona and Neymar have all struggled playing here!
Going into this match it was tight at the top of the table with The Strongest only 3 points behind leaders Always Ready.

The home side scored early and looked like they would win comfortably. However Real Oruro came back into it and levelled early in the second half when a hopeful cross deceived the keeper. The Strongest soon went back in front and held on to move level with Always Ready at the top.

The stadium was only around 1/4 full for the game which I think is normal. Although their attendances tend to be lower than the Santa Cruz sides, The Stongest are one of Bolivia’s most successful sides and regularly qualify for the Libertadores. Some argue that because of the altitude they, along with Bolivar and Always Ready, have an advantage over the other sides. Having struggled to climb my hotel stairs, I think they have a point!

How to buy tickets for The Strongest
I was unable to buy a ticket online so I went to the stadium on the morning of the match and picked one up no problem. Again I didn’t have to show any ID. Even better I managed to get rid of my damaged 100 BOB note!

Tips for visiting Estadio Hernando Siles
The stadium is a 25 min walk from the centre along Avenida Camacho or take any Micro with Stadium on it. I chose to sit in the preferencia area but I’m not sure if was any better than the stand opposite which was cheaper and also seemed to have more cover from the rain. Outside there were plenty vendors selling all types of food and souvenirs.

Where to buy the Official The Strongest shirt?
There are no official shops in the centre so I went to the Marathon Sports store in the Zona Sur area . It took about 1.5 hours to get there but was we’ll worth the trip! They had prior seasons shirts at huge discounts and I ended up paying around £6 per shirt! This was even cheaper than the fake ones I bought (which were decent quality).
To get to Marathon Sports I used the fantastic Mi Teleferico cable car system. I took the light blue line from Prado to Libertador then the green line to Ipravi. From there it’s a 20 min walk.
