Lanus v Estudiantes de la Plata, Copa de la Liga Argentina

This was one of the penultimate fixtures in the 2024 Copa de La Liga Argentina. Going into the game both sides were still in the hunt to qualify for the playoffs although it was a must-win match for 'El Granate'. Unfortunately for the home side, Estudiantes ended up winning 2-1 courtesy of an injury-time goal.

The club is named after the city of Lanus, a major industrial centre located in Buenos Aires province. The city in turn, is named after Frenchman Anacarsis Lanus who arrived in 1854 and acquired land on which the city was built.

The local rivals to Lanus are Banfield from the neighbouring city and the derby known as the Classico Del Sur is considered one of the most important and oldest fixtures in Argentian football.

How to buy tickets for Lanus

Again, I couldn't find any online option to buy tickets, so I chose to go with the same tour guide I had used before. I was picked up outside my apartment in Palermo and transported directly to the stadium - a lot easier than trying to get there by bus or train, especially as it was an evening game. The stadium is located around 14 km south of the centre of Buenos Aires but it took us around 1.5 hours to get there due to the heavy traffic (the return journey only took 30 mins).

Intensity Level - Low

This was another game with no away fans permitted, so the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. We had tickets for the uncovered section behind the goal but were able to move into the main stand once it started raining.

Tips for visiting the Estadio Monumental

• Bring the minimum essentials to the stadium (no bags)

• Don't go on your own - go with a tour/guide

• Bring a rain jacket - some of the ground is uncovered

  
  

Where to buy the Official Lanus shirt?

There is a small club shop located at the ground where you can buy official merchandise. I purchased the current season's home and away shirts which were quite expensive. They also had the previous season's shirts at a discount. This was the only place where I found any Lanus shirts during my stay in Buenos Aires.
